Situated approximately 1.5 hour’s drive from Port Elizabeth is the Kariega Game Reserve, set in 5,000 hectares of malaria-free wilderness, offering a wonderful wildlife experience. Kariega prides itself on the abundance of general game and bird life, supplementing the ‘Big Five’. The Reserve hosts over 25 game and 250 bird species, including lions, leopard, elephant, rhino, hippo, giraffe, zebra, eland, wildebeest, numerous other antelope species and resident Martial, Crowned and Fish Eagles.
Located in pristine surroundings, the tranquility and splendor of Kariega Game Reserve in the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa is, beyond doubt, astounding. Set high above the spectacular Kariega River Valley, you cannot get any closer to nature than this wondrous African wilderness, in the heart of the 1820 Settler Country, with its rich historical heritage.
Upon arrival at the lodge you will have a comfort stop before boarding your 4x4 vehicle to proceed on a 2¾ hour game drive with experienced rangers. After your game drive return to the lodge where a buffet lunch will be served in the restaurant, situated on the top of a high ridge overlooking the hills and plains.
After lunch board your transportation for a return drive to the pier.
Please note:
Not suitable for guests using a wheelchair or those with mobility limitations as getting into and out of the game vehicles can present a significant challenge. During the day, temperatures can get extremely hot. The game drive vehicle may not be covered. Wear comfortable walking shoes and breathable clothing; bring sunscreen, a sun hat and binoculars. Ride will be bumpy. Guests with back or neck problems are not allowed to participate. The roads in the game reserve are gravel; there are also inclines and certain parts of the game drive can be bumpy. Minimum age is 6 years. Participants are not permitted to use cellular phones during the game drives or to speak loudly or stand up on the game drive vehicles, as this will disturb the animals. Smoking is not permitted. Wildlife sightings are likely but are not guaranteed. Pumba Private Game Reserve’s curio shop does not accept foreign currency; you must have South African Rands to make a purchase.
