Parati is a colonial town with original 18th-century architecture and style. It is a National Monument of Brazil and is on UNESCO's World Heritage Site 'tentative' list because it represents one of the world's most important examples of colonial architecture. Explore with your guide on foot, strolling through the narrow cobblestone streets.
Among the finest landmarks are the Church of the Santa Rita de Cassia, which was built in 1722, and the , which was built in 1722, and the House of Culture museum, housed in a beautiful colonial mansion.
You will see plenty of colonial homes, appealing boutiques and tasteful galleries featuring the work of local artists. Often the craftsmen and -women are in residence, and you can watch them creating their art.
After approximately two hours of walking, you'll return to the ship. Guests who wish to stay in town to shop or explore independently are welcome to do so, but must make their own way back to the ship.
Please note: This is a two-hour walk that covers approximately a mile in distance. There will be some cobblestone surfaces and inclines to negotiate. Not advisable for guests using a wheelchair or for those with mobility limitations. Wear lightweight clothing; bring a hat, sunglasses sunscreen and a bottle of water from the ship. Wear comfortable walking shoes.
