Mazatlan, Mexico

Mazatlan is a Mecca for sun and fun seekers. It is a city of beautiful sunsets, bathed by the sea, encircled by cliffs, islands and beaches. A tourist center par excellence; it is also the most important commercial port on Mexico's west coast and the home base for Mexico's shrimping fleet. Shrimp from Mazatlan's waters are so large, measuring more than eight inches in length, that they are known as "zapatas," Spanish for shoes. Enjoy a day of relaxation at one of the city's many golden sand beaches or take a quiet stroll through the old town, one of Mexico's most historic cities. You may even wish to brave the new town of Mazatlan which boasts of flashy, endless party venues and souvenir shops of every kind.
