Costa Maya, Mexico

Costa Maya is a port developed on Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula to serve the cruise ships operating in the Western Caribbean. For decades, visitors who booked cruises to explore the profuse Mayan archaeological sites, thriving coral reefs and superb beaches of the area were forced to use anchorages offshore, due to the shallow inshore waters. Costa Maya was created to allow ship to dock alongside the mainland. The facility has its own services and attractions for visitors, and offers access to a variety of optional experiences such as tours of local Mayan ruins at Cacchoben and Kohunlich, excursions into the Yucatecan forest to visit the subterranean freshwater cenotes, and other activities.
