"Built on the site of an Etruscan settlement, Florence, the symbol of the Renaissance, rose to economic and cultural pre-eminence under the Medici in the 15th and 16th centuries. Its 600 years of extraordinary artistic activity can be seen above all in the 13th-century cathedral (Santa Maria del Fiore), the Church of Santa Croce, the Uffizi and the Pitti Palace, the work of great masters such as Giotto, Brunelleschi, Botticelli and Michelangelo."
Upon arrival in Florence's city center, leave the coach for a short walk to the Accademia museum, where you will view Michelangelo's statue of David -- one of the most revered sculptures in the world. Having survived the outdoor elements of Signoria Square, the magnificent sculpture was moved inside the museum in 1873, where it remains today. Also on display in the museum are paintings by Botticelli, Daddi and Raphael.
Next, you'll visit Brunelleschi's masterpiece cathedral in pink, green and white marble, and view its adjacent bell tower and baptistery. Your guided tour will also include the famous Ponte Vecchio, Piazza della Signoria and Santa Croce Square. Some free time will be allocated for shopping.
Lunch is served at a local Florentine restaurant.
Proceed to Pisa, where you will walk from the coach to the Piazza dei Miracoli. This open area is home to a group of monuments known the world. Here you will have about 30 minutes of free time to view the outside of the Leaning Tower, the cathedral and the baptistery.
Across the street is a row of street stalls selling souvenirs and leather goods.
Please note: The motorcoach parking area is located approximately one mile from the city center. The walking portion involves approximately two miles of extensive walking on cobblestone streets. There is a 30-minute standing visit at the cathedral. Wear comfortable walking shoes. Modest attire is required; knees, shoulders and midriffs must be covered. Shorts and short skirts are not allowed. Use of an audio headset (included) will enhance your tour experience. An English-speaking escort will accompany the bus for the duration of the tour and you will meet your guide for Florence in Florence. Tour does not operate on Mondays or holidays. The free time in Pisa has no guide and there is not sufficient time to climb the tower.
