The town of Alghero was founded by the Genoese Doria family in 1102 and soon became one of the more important fortresses in Sardinia, but was later conquered by the Catalans—this is reflected in the characteristic accent of the locals and the style of the urban architecture. The first stop on your tour will be at the recently opened Red Coral Museum and a visit to the Church of San Francesco. The latter is a jewel of Gothic and Catalan style dating back to the 14th century. Your time in the Old Town ends with a stop at Piazza Civica. Then, re-board your coach and drive to the Sella & Mosca Winery, founded in 1899. Marvel at the old-world atmosphere and the wonderful estate buildings that have remained unchanged for years. A local expert will accompany you on a tour of the old cellars. To conclude your visit here, you will taste some Sardinian products such as cheese, sausage, a traditional Sardinian flatbread called carta da musica and Sardinian sweets with famous Sella & Mosca red and white wines.
