Begin with a drive along the coast of Iceland's longest fjord, Eyjafjordur. Enjoy excellent views of Akureyri and its surrounding mountains. After crossing Vikurskard Pass, you will view Fnjoskadalur Valley, where geological remains of glacial and post-glacial times can clearly be seen.
Stop at Godafoss -- the waterfall of heathen gods -- one of the most spectacular waterfalls in Iceland. The Skjalfandafljot River falls from a height of 36 feet over a breadth of 100 feet. Stop to view the Skutustadir Craters on your drive to the Lake Myvatn area before lunch. After your meal, visit the Dimmuborgir lava labyrinth -- a paradise of towering lava castles, natural arches and countless unexplored grottos.
For relaxation time, the Myvatn Nature Baths offer guests a complete natural experience -- a relaxing dip amidst clouds of steam and a luxurious swim in a pool of geothermal water drawn from depths of up to 2.5 meters.
Return to the coach for the ride back to the ship.
Please note: Wherever Included Experience tours are offered, guests are allowed to participate in only one included experience per call unless otherwise specified in the tour description. Weather in Iceland is very unpredictable and views are weather permitting. It is recommended to wear sturdy, non-skid footwear and warm, waterproof outerwear. Terrain includes some inclines and rough grass, mud, and gravel paths. Guests must bring their bathing suit and towel. For hygiene purposes, it is required in Iceland to shower with soap and water without bathing suit before entering the geothermal baths. Locker and shower facilities are gender divided but communal.
Lake Myvatn is known for its tiny midget flies during the summers. They are harmless, but can be bothersome. It is recommended to bring a face net while visiting Lake Myvatn area. Lake Myvatn is also known for its abundant bird life during the summer. For avid bird watchers, we suggest your bring binoculars.
