Explore Kakum National Park and Canopy Walkway Drive from the port through the twin cities of Takoradi and Sekondi, passing farming communities and cottage industries en route to Kakum National Park. Upon arrival, you’ll have two exciting options:
1. Guided Forest Hike: Immerse yourself in the lush rainforest during a guided hike. Learn about the medicinal uses of local plant species and discover the diverse wildlife that inhabits the area.
2. Canopy Walkway Adventure: For the more adventurous, experience the thrill of walking on a suspended canopy walkway. The walkway, formed by seven suspension bridges, stretches 333 meters and hangs up to 27 meters above the forest floor. Marvel at the ancient trees surrounding you as you traverse this unique pathway.
During your visit, interact with a group of women who operate a palm oil extraction site, gaining insights into their daily lives. Lunch will be served at a local hotel, and afterward, enjoy the scenic two-hour return drive to the ship.
Please note:
Footwear: Wear sturdy hiking shoes for comfort and safety. Shade is limited, so bring a hat and apply biodegradable sunscreen. Bring insect repellent. Limited tourism infrastructure is part of the charm here, and you are trading breadth of experience for authentic interaction. Please bring your spirit of adventure and bear with any language difficulties your guide may encounter and with any operational surprises that may crop up.
