Here's a rare opportunity to explore the Klawock River Hatchery and to kayak on stunning freshwater Klawock Lake. In this realm of remote and serene wilderness, invigorate your senses and invoke a new appreciation for golden silence.
The Klawock River Hatchery serves as a vital hub for salmon conservation, sustaining the fishing industry for Southeast Alaska. The hatchery has harvested salmon eggs and released millions of wild salmon fry back into the Klawock River each year since 1977. Explore on a guided tour, and you may have the chance to see salmon spawn.
On the pretty shores of Klawock Lake, gear up for a kayaking adventure. Listen to a safety briefing and hop into your kayak. Dip your paddle into the glassy water and set out between the islands, retracing Klawock Heenya's history with each and every stroke. Learn about the lake's unique ecosystem and the nutrient-dense waters. Search for great blue heron, Sitka blacktail deer, and perhaps a black bear foraging as you trace the shoreline and explore the islands within the lake.
When your journey is complete, you'll leave your kayak and the startling serenity of the lake behind and transfer back to the pier.
