Go beyond the ordinary with an immersive maritime experience in one of South Australia’s first heritage precincts. Today you’ll see everything from shipwrecks to dolphins, migratory birds, and have the chance to visit a museum.
Start your adventure with a bus ride from Outer Harbor, where your cruise ship docks. Here you will be transferred to Port Adelaide, which is South Australia’s first heritage precinct.
Next, you’ll board a port river cruise, which is a comfortable and enclosed 16-seater vessel. Here you’ll engage in the river’s history, wildlife, learn about Port River’s rich maritime history, and visit the iconic Ships Graveyard.
Along the way, view the wreck "Santiago," which is thought to be the oldest iron hulled sailing ship in existence, as well as many other abandoned ships within the graveyard.
You’ll also enjoy viewing the local Port River dolphins, which are one of the only wild dolphin populations living within a city.
Then you’ll travel through to Garden Island where there's an opportunity to see migratory shorebirds, including threatened species such as the Curlew sandpiper. While cruising the river, learn about the significant Aboriginal history of the area.
Upon your return, you will be provided with an entry ticket to the South Australian Maritime Museum. The South Australia Maritime Museum preserves, explores and celebrates the human history of our oceans and rivers. The museum provides insight into maritime history and takes a contemporary approach to interpreting the past.
This tour also provides you with free time to enjoy Port Adelaide and take a leisurely stroll or grab a bite to eat in one of South Australia’s iconic heritage areas.
