Artists, painters and sculptors have long been attracted to Svolvaer due to its colorful buildings, pleasant disposition, and extraordinary light conditions.
You will drive to Henningsvaer, a fishing village built across numerous islands and skerries typical of Lofoten. Historically, as many as 5,000 fishing boats crammed into the harbor at any given time, making it almost possible to cross the harbor by stepping from boat to boat. The Lofoten fishing industry is active from January to April when Arctic cod enter the temperate waters of Vestfjord to spawn.
In Henningsvaer, visit Lofoten House. This art gallery's first floor is divided into two sections -- one exhibiting watercolors by Lars Lerin and the other exhibiting pictures and ceramic works by Her Majesty Queen Sonja.
Please note: Wear comfortable walking shoes.
