Setting out from Praia da Rocha, your 4-wheel-drive vehicle will follow country roads as far as Monchique. Along the way you will see numerous cork plantations as your driver/guide explains the importance of this material and industry to the region.
Stopping in the village of Monchique, you will have time to shop for some fine examples of Algarve's clever handicrafts.
Then, continue four-wheeling up to Fóia, the highest point of the Algarve, where (weather permitting) you will be able to admire the view of the coastline and inland. Don't miss the chance to taste the famous Algarve firewater -- Medronho. It's not for everyone, but it would be a shame not to find out if it's for you! Return to the pier.
