The natural splendor of Breidafjordur Bay is yours to discover on this half-day cruise.
Begin with a panoramic drive to Stykkisholmur -- the largest town on the Snæfellsnes Peninsula. Take in the magnificent views surrounding this thriving center of commerce and tourism which features well-preserved Icelandic houses and buildings.
Boarding a motorized boat at the dock, you'll listen to a brief safety orientation. Set out on Breidafjordur Bay -- a large, shallow body of water whose dramatic, racing tides make for a dynamic, ever-changing seascape. Your captain points out the sights -- awesome landmarks that fill every angle of this gorgeous nature preserve. Marvel at towering cliffs inhabited by huge colonies of seabirds, the beautiful, still fjords, and the celebrated tidal currents racing around rocky skerries and intertidal islets, which number in the thousands.
Learn about the area's extraordinarily rich birdlife -- white-tailed sea eagles, arctic tern, cormorants, kittiwakes, common shag, elder, gray phalarope and black guillemots. Notice the many bright-beaked puffins congregating along the rocky shoreline.
Keep an eye out for the vast array of marine and wildlife populating this undisturbed terrain. Watch for common porpoises, white-beaked dolphins, gray seals, orcas and minke whales -- dark-covered baleen whales that were often mistaken for blue whales. These magnificent creatures can grow up to 33 feet in length.
Watch as a small fishing net is cast overboard to catch shellfish and possibly a sea urchin. When the net is pulled from the plentiful waters, marvel at the rich bounty, which will be cleaned, prepped and presented to taste. Savor this amazingly fresh, delicious seafood, plucked right from the sea for everyone's pleasure. Refreshments and other snacks are available for purchase (at your own expense).

Wildlife sightings are likely but are not guaranteed. Wear comfortable walking shoes. It is essential that you wear warm, layered clothing in order to fully enjoy and participate in this excursion.
