You'll begin with a transfer from the ship to Gustav Adolf Square and learn about the significance of the city's canals to Gothenburg's role as a trade center. Admire the famous Gothenburg Opera House, the famous statue of Poseidon by Carl Milles rising above Götaplatsen Square, and Avenyn Street with its many pubs, shops and restaurants. On a panoramic drive, you will pass the Swedish Exhibition & Congress Center, Sweden's famous Liseberg amusement park, and the Nya Ullevi Stadium (capacity 43,000 seats).
Step inside Masthugg Church, dating back to 1914 and built in National Romantic style. The church offers a fantastic view of the surroundings.
Continue to the Haga district, renowned for its picturesque wooden houses, 19th-century atmosphere, and many cafés. Originally a working-class suburb with a dodgy reputation, it has gradually transformed into a popular gathering spot for tourists and Gothenburgers alike. A major community renovation carried out in the 1980s saw houses either renovated or demolished and replaced by post-modern replicas. Enjoy some free time in the hugely popular Haga neighborhood before you return to the ship.
Please note: Wear comfortable walking shoes.Visits inside the church may not be possible if religious services are being held.Tour order may vary. There is an approximately 200 metres uphill walk to Masthuggs Church.
