Enjoy a taste of Wales with an exclusive visit to the family run Velfrey Vineyard where the Pembrokeshire sunshine combined with coastal breezes provide the perfect ripening conditions.
Established in 2016 by Andy, Fiona, and Ryan Mounsey, Velfrey Vineyard occupies a gentle south facing slope of the Lampeter Vale in south Pembrokeshire countryside and has 4,000 vines planted across nearly 3 acres. The vines are planted in a sandy clay loam, a soil type which is found in some of the world’s most prestigious wine growing regions. Since then, the vineyard has gone on to win awards not only for the vineyard itself, but two of the four wines produced here have also won multiple awards.
On arrival, meet with one of the Mounsey family and discover how Velfrey Vineyard was established. Follow a year in the life of the vineyard from winter pruning all the way through to grape harvesting. Learn how the wines are produced and see the vines up close before enjoying a wine tasting.
The Vineyard currently produces four different wines including their traditional sparkling wine, but depending on the wine making process, you will have the opportunity to taste at least three of these wines. This will give you a sample of the different types of wine available in this beautiful country.
Following your wine tasting, relax on the terrace (weather permitting) or in the visitor lodge overlooking the vineyard and enjoy the delights of local Welsh Cheese and Charcuterie Grazing Boards. Taste a selection of outstanding cheeses and charcuterie from the artisan producers of West Wales and Monmouthshire. These local delicacies will be complemented by locally baked focaccia, Pembrokeshire pickles, Welsh Crackers and a selection of olives, sundried tomatoes, and salad leaves. And of course, a glass of the delicious Velfrey sparkling wine!
Please note: The walk down into the vineyard is a gentling sloping crushed rocked pathway. Relatively smooth at the top of the field but a but uneven underfoot if guests wish to walk to the bottom. Minimum age 18 to participate. Approximately 1 hour of walking.
