Your excursion will begin with a 30-minute motor coach ride to the railway station. Here you will board a historical vintage electric train to the mountain village of Soller.
In 1912, the railroad line was opened between Palma and Soller, making the northwestern coast of Mallorca accessible to city-dwellers. Prior to 1912, the journey across the mountains of Mallorca made passage difficult -- the Palma-Soller Road was an absolute terror to navigate and the locals will be happy to inform you that it still is. Relax and enjoy the 45-minute ride train ride, which is not fast but is much as it was almost 100 years ago. Vintage railcars with mahogany panels and brass fittings rattle along the track with spectacular vistas, and the numerous tunnels along the way provide a glimpse of how difficult construction must have been. You will travel across the plain, through the tunnels and over pine-covered mountains, descending into a lush valley that is famous for its orange groves. Terraces of ancient olive trees straddle a precarious piece of land between the mountains and the sea.
Leave the train in Soller to accompany your guide on a walking tour through this charming village. You'll also have some free time on your own to explore, shop or relax at a café (at your own expense) before boarding a motor coach for the beautiful panoramic drive back to Palma.
Please note: Wear comfortable walking shoes. Train ride may operate from Soller to Palma. Use of an audio headset (included) will enhance your tour experience.
