Set out with a small group (maximum 16 privileged guests) to see the 'modern' Ottoman palaces of Istanbul.
A short drive brings you to Dolmabahce Palace -- administrative center of the late-Ottoman Empire and residence to the last of Sultans. You'll enter through the Imperial Gate. Among the 285 rooms and 46 halls, don't miss the Crystal Staircase, whose banisters are made of Baccarat crystal.
Ciragan Palace, with its superb location on the Bosphorus, features a wide terrace with sweeping views. Inside, the Gazebo Lounge offers 'afternoon tea' to the privileged few. This Istanbul classic is a time-honored ritual with a special three-tier stand of finger-sandwiches, scones with clotted cream and jams, and a wide variety of pastries. Freshly-brewed coffee and a selection of teas are best enjoyed while appreciating the stunning view.
Please note: Participants must be able to climb 40 to 50 steps and walk approximately 0.7 miles over carpet and parquet flooring. Not advisable for guests using a wheelchair or for those with mobility limitations. Some sections of the palace may be undergoing renovation and/or be closed to the public. Be prepared for a delay entering the palaces, as visitor numbers are regulated. Tour does not operate Mondays and holidays.
