Corsica is famed for its stunning scenery and picturesque villages -- today's the day to be enchanted by its charms.
A leisurely panoramic drive takes you along winding country roads and through picturesque villages to the Haute-Balagne coast, once the most fertile region of Corsica.
You'll journey to the pretty seaside village of Ile Rousse and visit the fresh market here. The stalls are piled high with fruits, vegetables, charcuterie, cheeses and artisan breads.
Pass through Lumio for a wonderful view of the Romanesque church and the surrounding vineyards.
The hazy silhouette of the oldest inhabited village in Corsica, San Antonino, is visible from miles around -- its cluster of orange buildings cling to the granite hilltop like a bird's nest gone awry. On a walk through the town, learn about the Savelli, who ruled from the now-ruined castle, and see some of the old churches. The town's circular layout of narrow, cobblestone lanes, vaulted passageways and neat stone houses has changed little over many centuries.
Pause at Chez Leon in Cateri to sample some delicious Corsican snacks .
Please note: The coach will park below San Antonino. Tour requires walking about 200 yards to reach the village. Terrain includes even and uneven surfaces, cobblestones, inclines, and many steep and uneven steps. Wear sturdy non-skid walking shoes. The route is winding. Guests prone to vertigo or motion sickness should consider this before booking and/or take appropriate medication. Restroom facilities are limited; expect long lines and a wait time.
