No visit to Corsica is complete without a visit to the famous Calanques de Piana. The coastal scenery here is so spectacular, it is part of the Regional Natural Park of Corsica. The Scandola Peninsula is an impressive, porphyritic rock mass with vegetation that is an outstanding example of scrubland. Seagulls, cormorants, and sea eagles are found there, and the clear waters, rocky islets and inaccessible caves host a rich variety of marine life.
Head north on a 60-minute scenic drive, gently climbing up to San Sebastiano Pass for splendid views over the Sagone Gulf.
You'll stop at the Greek village of Cargese for a short visit to the local church.
Pass through one of Corsica's natural wonders -- Les Calanques de Piana is a stretch of rose-colored granite cliffs that plunge sharply into the dark blue sea in a wonderfully vivid contrast of color. The steeples, spires and unusual shapes range in color from pink to deep red and have been sculpted by nature for centuries. The Calanques are unique to this part of the island, and you'll have time to admire the spectacular views and take plenty of photos during your time here.
Enjoy a 45-minute pause for refreshments; then, it's a 90-minute drive back to Ajaccio.
Please note: Wear comfortable walking shoes. Tour consists mainly of sightseeing from the transportation with just two short stops. The route is winding. Guests prone to motion sickness should consider this before booking and/or take appropriate medication. Terrain includes even and uneven surfaces, inclines, and steps.
