Visit two of Halifax's most popular landmarks -- Peggy's Cove and the Fairview Lawn Cemetery. The latter is the final resting place of 121 passengers of Titanic.
Your expedition begins with lovely views of wooded coastal roads as you travel along the Lighthouse Route. You're on your way to the historic community of Peggy's Cove. Hear how glaciers and constant pounding from ocean waves have shaped the granite shores of this world-renowned village. During your visit, see the Peggy's Cove Lighthouse, which has inspired generations of writers, photographers, and painters. Don't miss the famous deGarthe Monument, which artisan William deGarthe carved in coarse local stone, and take time to explore the shops and galleries of this working fishing community.
Traveling via St Margaret's Bay, you will visit the Fairview Lawn Cemetery. Walk the grounds with your guide, who brings to life the tale of the great ship Titanic and its ill-fated maiden voyage. Discover the true identities of the unknown child and J. Dawson -- both recovered from the icy waters of the Atlantic Ocean. Their stories are part of a legacy that continues to fascinate visitors more than 100 years later.
Please note: The main venues at Peggy's Cove are wheelchair accessible; however, many of the smaller shops are not. Wear comfortable walking shoes. Visitors are asked to stay off the rocks and away from the shoreline at Peggy's Cove.
