Uncover the Territory's and Darwin's significant role in Australia’s defensive and offensive activities during World War II. Visit the East Point, identified by military tacticians as an ideal defensive position for protecting Darwin Harbour and it’s assets. Darwin was bombed 64 times over two years during the war.
Enjoy free time at the Darwin Military Museum to view the exhibits, artefacts, items of war, artillery pieces, vehicles, firearms and more. Next, travel to Charles Darwin National Park, on the outskirts of the city at Frances Bay. It is a significant wetland area and part of a network of World War II military sites. Hear about the history of a number of bunkers and shelters that were used for storage between 1944 and the mid 1980's. Take a stroll along the parks pathways (approx. 500m) to the scenic lookout platform for views of the harbour and its wetland.
