Take your experience to the next level with an exhilarating ride as you navigate the pristine waters of the Pacific Ocean, surrounded by snow-capped peaks and lush coastal scenery on a Yamaha WaveRunner. This guided trip really has it all for adventure seekers and ocean lovers alike from, raw untouched beauty to island exploration.
To start today’s exciting journey, you’ll be met at the pier and transported to a local beach where you’ll be fitted with a fusion dry suit, life jacket, and receive a safety briefing from the captain.
Sitka has thousands of islands right off the coast of its fair city, which creates hundreds of ocean waterways waiting to be explored. You’ll explore these unique waterways on a 2 seated WaveRunner as you follow the directions and safety guidelines of a local captain on a machine of your own. Each machine can carry up to 2 individuals, one of which will be driving and following the guide WaveRunner. The lead guide machine will be operated by a local, US Coast Guard certified captain. All guest drivers must have the ability to clearly follow the directions provided. Captains will use arm signals to guide each machine as to when they must follow in line, when to go very slow, when to shut down the machine, and when it is okay to spread out a bit. Not only is this trip adventurous, it’s fun and safe.
You’ll then wade out into the water, board the WaveRunner, and practice in the protected bay until all guests are comfortable. The captain then leads the group toward the protected waters of Silver Bay, skirting in and out of smaller bays, in between islands, and along the beaches of Sitka Sound. The captain stops often in protected areas to talk about local marine life, flora and fauna as well as local history and culture.
You’ll ride for approximately 1 hour and 15 mins, then return to the departing bay, gather personal items, and be transported back to the pier or to the downtown area. All guests are provided with a dry bag for personal items.
Please note: This is a guided wave runner trip exploring the islands and intercoastal waterways of Southeast Alaska. This trip is sold by waver runner. One person on each machine will need to have the ability to operate the machine as well as clearly follow the directions of the captain leading the group. Price is by equipment, each WaveRunner can accommodate 2 guests. Book per party.
Comfortable clothes such as athletic pants or sweatpants are recommended. Each guest is provided a very high end, comfortable dry suit. Guests should be aware that latex seals on dry suits can be uncomfortably tight. Fusion dry suits are 2 layers of protective material. First is a bi-lament material, which is the typical dry suit material that keeps the water off your skin. The second layer is a flexible compressed neoprene material that expands and contracts around your body, like a wet suit. This double layered system makes these suits the most effective high-end suit on the market, providing extra layers of warmth as well as making them very difficult to puncture, increasing the effectiveness of the suit. In addition, all guests are required to wear a USCG certified life vest. Each wave runner is equipped with a kill switch, which the driver must wear and is installed on the guest and machine by the captain.
Guests should not bring anything that they are not willing to lose. All guests are provided with a dry bag to place personal items in which will be carried in a dry compartment on the WaveRunner. These bags and compartments may fail. Cameras and cell phones are more than welcome if they are in a protective case.
This trip will utilize a fleet of Yamaha cruisers. Minimum height is 4 feet. Minimum age is 16 years.
