Resurrection Bay is a large bay on the Kenai Peninsula in Alaska, between the Aialik Peninsula and the Resurrection Peninsula, with the town of Seward at its head. It was named by Alexandr Baranov, who found respite in the bay from a bad storm in the Gulf of Alaska. The storm abated on Easter Day, and he subsequently named the Resurrection River and the bay in honor of the day. Surrounded by snowcapped peaks, it is often called the gateway to the Kenai Fjords, since many visitors use the bay to access the nearby Kenai Fjords National Park.
