Explore the extraordinary beauty of one of the world's premier Congressionally-chartered botanical research organizations on a guided tour of Allerton & McBryde Garden.
The garden is located in Poipu, on the southern coast of Kauai. It is best described as a living work of art that includes water features, statuary and garden rooms that delight visitors at every turn. National Geographic Traveler Magazine calls Allerton Garden one of the "Top 50 Must-See Attractions In The World." Enter the gates of this once-private estate and wind past dramatic cliff-top views of the protected bay below. Stroll through outdoor rooms and see rippling pools, fountains and dramatic sculptures. Venture to a secluded waterfall in a part of the gardens most visitors do not see. Architect Robert Allerton created this masterpiece of landscape architecture and garden art in the early 20th century.
The nearby McBryde Garden comprises 250 acres of conservation research land and is home to more than 6,000 rare and endangered species of plants collected from around the Pacific Basin and throughout the world. Travel by vehicle deeper into the upper Lawai Valley, and after a delightful outdoor lunch in the McBryde Garden, you will set out on a short leisurely walk on a trail featuring rare species of plants. The path leads to an enchanted tropical rain forest, which has a backdrop of one of the most beautiful waterfalls on Kauai. Before returning to the ship, explore the Visitor Center and enjoy a stop at Spouting Horn-a blowhole that is one of the most popular attractions in Kauai.
Please note:
The Allerton and McBryde Gardens of the National Tropical Botanical Garden is a non-profit organization. Your visit will contribute to their on-going restoration mission to enrich life through discovery, scientific research, conservation, and education by perpetuating the survival of plants, ecosystems, and cultural knowledge of tropical regions. No age requirement. This is a walking tour: guests must be able to climb up/down stairs and walk on uneven gravel paths. Closed-toed Shoes or "hiking sandals" with toe- and heel-straps required. Visitors Center/Gift Shop closed on Sundays and Mondays. Tours on these days spend more time in the garden.
