The east coast of Jersey evokes a bygone era, and it is the backdrop to the island's most enduring myths and legends.
The eastern skyline presents the dramatic sight of Mont Orgueil Castle, towering over the harbor of Gorey and the Royal Bay of Grouville. Today, you will visit this castle -- the jewel in Jersey's crown and one of the best-preserved castles in Britain. It offers spectacular views across the sea to France. Negotiate the ancient passages and stairways to climb to its highest point. It's hard to imagine a more peaceful panorama, looking over the parapets at the gentle sweep of the bay, where fishing boats bob in the harbor and the hills of Normandy greet you from afar.
Return to sea level for a stroll about the charming waterfront and gardens at Gorey .
Please note: Wear comfortable walking shoes. Dress warmly in layers; outer layer should be windproof and waterproof. Tour requires a walk from the coach drop-off point. Terrain includes a sloping sandy pathway, even and uneven surfaces, cobblestones, inclines, and many steps. Participants are welcome to remain on the lower levels where steps are minimal.
