Leaving the pier, drive through the exclusive residential area of Tafira to reach the Bandama Crater where you will enjoy views of the north of the island, 2,000 feet above sea level.
Continue to Teror and visit the Basilica de la Virgin del Pino (Madonna of the Pine). Located on the main plaza, this neoclassic church is the third to be built on the same spot since the 15th century. Outside, 10 gargoyles stand guard and the inside features a Baroque altar and a richly clothed, wooden carved figure of the Virgin Mary.
Then visit Arucas, one of the 10 original "kingdoms" of Gran Canaria. The ancient inhabitants farmed the land and lived in caves in the surrounding hills. To this day, many of these caves still exist and several are still inhabited, though modernized to include all the comforts expected from a modern-day house. In the city center, visit The Parish Church of San Juan Bautista, a great grey-stoned gothic church, which looks wildly out of place among the small white houses.
After your tour, return to your ship along the same scenic route.
Please note: Entrance to religious sites may be restricted by local health protocols. The route is winding. Guests who are prone to motion sickness or vertigo should consider this before booking and/or take appropriate medication. Wear comfortable walking shoes. Participants must negotiate stairs and/or uneven surfaces and is therefore not advisable for guests using a wheelchair or for those with mobility limitations. The Basilica de la Virgin del Pino is closed on Monday mornings. Free time is provided in lieu of an inside visit.
