Enjoy an exhilarating hike to the crater of a still-active volcano.
At the pier, board a caique, or traditional wooden fishing boat, for the short cruise to Nea Kameni -- one of the islands in the center of the volcanic caldera. Sail along the volcanic shores, passing some peculiar rock formations. The black volcanic rock against the white pumice offers a stunning contrast.
Disembark the caique for a 45-minute hike to the volcano's crater. As you walk up the path, observe the lava fragments and the volcanic rock formations on either side. Free time is afforded at the crater for you to savor the views of Santorini and the amazing cliffs of the caldera.
Return to the boat and sail toward the caldera's other tiny island -- Palea Kameni -- famous for its hot springs. Your boat will stop in the green sulfuric waters, whose temperature sometimes reaches 98 degrees. Take advantage of the chance to swim in these rejuvenating springs.
From here, the caique will take you back to the pier.
Please note: Shade is limited; please dress accordingly. Bring a hat and wear sunscreen. Time and conditions permitting, you will be able to swim. Wear your swimsuit under your clothing; bring a towel. The water's high sulfur levels may cause light-colored swimsuits to discolor. Tour operates weather permitting.
