From the pier you will depart by motorcoach for an enjoyable drive into the Provençal countryside bringing you to the charming Old Town of Aix-en-Provence. It's here that your walking tour begins on the Grand Cours Mirabeau -- a wide avenue built on the site of the city's medieval ramparts and shaded by 200-year-old trees. Notice the elegant façades of the gracious 17th- and 18th-century mansions -- especially their wrought-iron balconies and finely carved doorways. Explore the old Mazarin District, founded by Archbishop Michel Mazarin in 1646, and later home to many writers and artists, including Paul Cézanne. Situated in the heart of the Mazarin Quarter, the fountain of the four dolphins is an example of the Baroque art so prized by the Aixoise nobility.
Discover the beautiful St Sauveur Cathedral with its many contrasting architectural styles, a legacy of countless additions and renovations performed between the 5th and 18th centuries. Most notable are the remnants of a Roman-era wall that were used in a later wall, and the 15th-century Gothic portal.
You will have some free time at the end of the walking tour to explore Aix on your own before returning to the pier.
Please note: Wear comfortable walking shoes. Travel time to Aix-en-Provence is approximately 45 minutes. Not advisable for guests with mobility limitations. Use of an audio headset (included) will enhance your tour experience.
