Get acquainted with Cagliari and meet the warm people of Sardinia. They will introduce you to their culture and traditions and treat you to a homemade feast of locally grown products.
Your excursion begins with a motorcoach drive to Viale Buon Cammino. Coaches are not allowed in the Old Town, so you will disembark here and enter on foot for a one-hour walking tour. Enjoy scenic views of Cagliari's port and gulf. Head through the city center to the ancient city walls and the 13th-century Tower of St Pancras; you'll find yourself surrounded by incredibly narrow streets lined with dilapidated palaces.
Step inside the cathedral if you wish (at your own expense). It was originally built in 13th-century Romanesque style but sports a mock-Pisan façade. The cathedral is flanked by the Archbishop's Palace and the Governor's Palace.
A drive up Mount Urpino for a brief photo stop offers a view of the entire city from the port of Cagliari and views across Poetto Beach to the Molentargius Pond.
Pass famous Poetto Beach en route to the farming community of Maracalagonis, where you'll visit Casa Atzeri. This venue is the perfect expression of the culture and traditions of Sardinia. Mix with local people in traditional costume and watch a typical folkloric show. Enjoy a taste of genuine Sardinian hospitality as you snack on homemade bread, local cheeses, vegetables, olives and salamis. Afterward, feel free to join in the dancing. And don't leave without trying the local wine, including Mirto -- a sweet dessert wine. Purchase wine to take away with you if you wish.
Please note: Not advisable for guests with mobility limitations. Tour requires about 60 minutes of walking. The terrain includes even and uneven surfaces and at least 25 steps. Corkage policy: Wine purchased on this tour is exempt from the onboard corkage fee (limited to one bottle of wine per person).
