Beautiful Bilbão, full of character and a sassy self-appreciation, was initially founded by the Romans, who mostly appreciated the nearby iron ore deposits. Nowadays, this modern city's bent for avant-garde architecture (such as the ultra-modern Guggenheim Museum) contrasts sharply with its medieval heart.
A panoramic drive takes you past the Gardens of Albia, the Church of San Vicente and the Palace of Chavarri, all within the modern new city.
Then, you'll discover the Old Town – the nucleus of this industrial port city. Narrow streets are lined with Renaissance, Baroque and Modernist buildings and you'll stroll past the Cathedral of Santiago, the Gothic Church of San Anton, and the Plaza Nueva (New Square).
