Daylight passing Mount Pelee

Passing the northern end of the island of Martinique, guests will be able to see the peak of the stratovolcano Mt. Pelée rising more than 4,500 feet above sea level on the forested island. This volcano erupted on May 8 of 1902 with a sudden, catastrophic pyroclastic blast that inundated and destroyed the island’s capital and largest city, Sainte-Pierre, within minutes, killing an estimated 30,000 persons. Today Mt. Pelée (the name means “peeled” in French) is in a quiescent state, not active but still registering seismic activity, and is among the most closely monitored volcanos on earth.
