Start your adventure with a short coach ride through Christchurch city. See how Christchurch is preserving some of its iconic buildings following the devastating 2011 earthquake, and hear about its exciting vision to rebuild and restore the city.
Get off the coach at the Riverside Kitchen cook school that is nestled above the bustling Riverside inner city produce market. You will be welcomed into the peaceful light filled space which has views over the thriving central city foodie mecca.
The chefs will take you on a journey of the market with a cooking demonstration that incorporates some of the best culinary gems from the stall holders below. Learn about the food we produce in Canterbury, the types of farms and life style blocks and the stories behind the stall owners and how they became to be part of the market.
The demonstration not only gives some great tips and tricks to use in the kitchen but will explore the place that Riverside Market has commanded as part of the rebuild of the city; a true central point in the new city center, providing Cantabrians with a place to gather as a community.
Once the demonstration has finished you will be seated at the dining table to enjoy the dishes you have seen created using the gems from the producers downstairs. The courses will be paired with fine local wines.
The chefs will then accompany you down into the market itself, armed with all the inside information on the stall holders and what they produce. You will be well equipped to make the most of Christchurch’s finest food and shopping destination. Knowing where to find the best products to take with you, and some tops ideas on the gin, beer and wine merchants in the market, will help you purchase their best the market offers.
When the tour has finished you have the option to explore the inner-city shopping precinct on your own and return to the ship via shuttle or you can take your tour coach back to the ship.Tour order may vary.
