Weh is a very small island, commonly referred to as Sabang. This is the westernmost island in the Indonesian archipelago, far from the crowds and a very mellow place indeed. Those who venture just off the coast find some of the most stunning, yet rugged, diving in the world.
Explore the quiet city of Sabang. You will stop at a local elementary school to watch the youngsters participate in a traditional dance performance.
Your panoramic drive continues past the Dutch-colonial buildings of Sabang -- a reminder of a time when trade in this part of the world was controlled by the Dutch East India Company. Your guide will point out the huge trees imported from Suriname by the Dutch. Today, these are a fantastic landmark in the town.
Next, you'll visit Iboih village in a marvelous location adjacent to Rubiah Sea Garden. The backdrop is a forest that covers about 3,200 acres.
From here, board a glass-bottom boat and head towards nearby Rubiah Island. The pristine water and nearby coral reef are ideal for swimming, snorkeling and viewing through the glass floor of the boat -- a great way to enjoy another aspect of this inviting Indonesian isle.
