An approximately 50-minute drive brings you to Kairakuen Garden. Created in 1842 and one of the Three Great Gardens of Japan, Kairakeun is known for its variety of Japanese apricot (ume) trees. Approximately 100 species and 3,000 ume trees are planted here. Climb to the top floor of a quaint wooden building for the best view of the garden and nearby Senba Lake. Snap some photos if you like.
Next, visit a local sake (rice wine) brewery with a fascinating history. The family that owns it began as samurai warriors and took on a mission to revitalize the local economy. A guided tour by the sake brewer, explains the history of the brewery and is your chance to view the natural beauty surrounding the facility. Enjoy a tasting of three varieties of sake before you return to the pier.
