A 40-minute scenic drive from the pier brings you to the Mari Mari Cultural Village, where the cultural diversity of Sabah is on display. Set among a tropical fruit orchard, with a bubbling river flowing through the middle, the Mari Mari Cultural Village will take you on a journey back in time to the days of the legendary headhunters and other indigenous people of Borneo. Upon arrival at the entrance to the village, across to a approx. 10 meters hanging bridge then you can visit the different homes of the various ethnicities of Sabah. Each home was built by descendants of the tribes they represent and offers a truly genuine cultural experience. Acquaint yourself with each tribe and learn about their modern-day lives. As you walk through the village, you will find demonstration huts where daily activities of old times come to life -- the making of a blowpipe, starting a fire from the Polod tree, and tattoo-making and its symbolism. There are also stalls offering Sabah delicacies where you can taste herbal drinks and rice wine, and see how the women cook their meals using bamboo. Your visit ends with a simple demonstration of traditional dances with the famous Murut Megunatip, or bamboo dance, as the finale.
Please note: Wear long pants and a long-sleeved shirt to protect yourself from insect bites.
