Kota Kinabalu has many fast flowing rivers that provide opportunities for adventure sports such as white-water rafting. The Kiulu River has long been a favorite -- gentle enough for a beginner but still providing an adrenalin rush. Head over to the Kiulu River, where you are briefed on safety precautions and use of the equipment. After donning your helmets and life jackets, enjoy a one-hour fun-filled ride, past jungle-clad hills, rice paddies and native villages. At the end of the journey, you can shower and change into dry clothes, before digging into a Malaysian buffet lunch on the riverbank. Following lunch, relax and enjoy the drive back to Kota Kinabalu.
Please note: This rafting adventure is classified as a Grade I and Grade II river, but its moderate rolls and small waves make it ideal for more seasoned river riders as well. Participants need to be moderately fit, able to swim, and comfortable in the water. As with any white-water rafting there is the possibility of the raft flipping, or a rafter falling out. You must be able to recover and get back into the raft with the assistance of the expert river guides. Waiver must be signed and medical conditions disclosed. Wear your swimsuit under your clothing; bring a towel, sunscreen and a hat. Bring a change of clothes. Wear sandals or sport shoes that can get wet; shoes with any kind of spike or sharp buckle that might puncture the raft are not allowed. Bring a labeled tote bag to stow your change of clothes. Do not bring jewelry, expensive watches, or contact lenses that might fall out (glasses are fine as long as they are secured with a strap). Tour operates subject to the water level and conditions.
