You meet your escort at the pier and take a short walk to the heliport. After being greeted by the flight crew, have a safety briefing before heading to the helipad and boarding your helicopter.
Departing Qaqortoq, enjoy breathtaking views of the Arctic Mountains, fjords and sheep farms from above as you fly towards the Qalerallit Glacier. Upon reaching the glacier, hover in front of the ice wall to truly appreciate the enormity of these massive glaciers before your pilot finds a safe location to land on the glacier surface. Here you will take approx. 30 min to explore this vast terrain and take in the stunning landscape. This is a truly unique opportunity to walk on Greenland’s icecap, part of the world’s second largest ice sheet.
Taking to the sky again, do a loop around the glacier before heading towards Qaqortoq again. After your flight you can follow your guide back to the pier or walk around town and return to the pier at your leisure.
Please note: It is essential that you wear warm, layered clothing in order to fully enjoy this excursion. Outer layer should be waterproof and windproof. Bring gloves, a warm hat and a scarf for your stop on the glacier. Total flight time approximately 40 minutes. Helicopter has a maximum of 5 passengers. Guests weighing 260 lbs or more will pay an additional surcharge over the published fare. Tour is non-refundable 14 days prior to the arrival date in Qaqortoq. Tour operates subject to meeting a minimum number of participants. Flight time and route may vary due to weather conditions. The level of guide experience varies due to the remoteness of the location. Limited tourism infrastructure is part of the charm here, and you are trading breadth of experience for authentic interaction. Please bring your spirit of adventure and bear with any language difficulties your guide may encounter and with any operational surprises that may crop up.
