Have the opportunity to participate in a traditional Kaffemik as a local family invites you into their home for a visit!
After a short walk from the pier, arrive at the home of a local family who have prepared a traditional keffemik for you. Keffemik means "via coffee" and are used to celebrate special events from anniversaries to births, but today’s event is designed to give you special insight into the life and traditions of Greenlanders.
Homemade cakes, buns and of course coffee will be ready to greet you when you arrive. Don’t forget to take off your shoes as is customary before entering any Greelander’s home! Sit back and relax while the family tells about life in Greenland past and present and feel free to ask questions. After about 1 hour at the family home, it is time to bid farewell to your new friends and return to the city center having just experienced something very few outside of Greenland ever will have the opportunity to enjoy.
Please Note: You will be asked to remove your shoes before entering the local’s home. The level of guide experience varies due to the remoteness of the location. Limited tourism infrastructure is part of the charm here, and you are trading breadth of experience for authentic interaction. Please bring your spirit of adventure and bear with any language difficulties your guide may encounter and with any operational surprises that may crop up. A shuttle service is available to transfer guests to and from the City Centre back to the ship.
