Leave Akureyri and the fjord, and head to Godafoss (Waterfall of the Gods) -- one of the most spectacular waterfalls in Iceland.
The Nature Baths at Myvatn -- the Blue Lagoon of the north -- offer bathers a completely natural, relaxing dip amid clouds of steam. The geothermal water is drawn from depths of 7,000 feet. Active (geothermal activity, not lava flowing) volcanoes and belching steam vents populate the vicinity. The baths contain a unique blend of minerals, silicates and geothermal micro-organisms. The warm, soothing waters are beneficial to skin and spirit alike.
Facilities include a reception area and café, changing rooms and showers, as well as a 53,000-square-foot outdoor geothermal bathing pool maintained at a constant temperature of 100 - 104 degrees Fahrenheit. Due to its chemical composition, undesirable bacteria and flora cannot live in the lagoon, making chlorine or other disinfectants redundant.
Relaxed and rejuvenated by your geothermal dip, you will return to Akureyri.
Please note: Local custom and pool regulations mandate that all guests shower and wash thoroughly with soap and water (without swim attire) before entering the baths. Separate shower facilities for men and women are available on site. Swimwear must be worn in the thermal baths. Bring your swimsuit and a towel from the ship (these items can also be rented at the facility at your own expense). Bring sandals or flip-flops. Pregnant women are not allowed to participate; guests with heart and respiratory issues should consult their physician prior to booking this tour. Surfaces can be slippery and wet; please exercise extreme caution to avoid slipping. Suitable for guests with mobility limitations. A wooden platform at Godafoss allows for wheelchair-accessible viewing of the falls. Parents traveling with children under the age of 3 must rent a child's car seat from the tour operator; please see the Destination staff on board. You cannot use your child's car seat from home in Iceland. The toilet facilities at Fosshóll, Goðafoss Waterfall carry a charge of 200 ISK (approximately $1.50) for toilet use. Please note that this charge applies to all visitors who wish to use the facilities, including those who shop in their store; they accept card payments only; it is not possible to pay with cash.
