On board a local speedboat, you will head along the east coast of Nosy Be.
You're headed to Ampangoriana village -- the capital of Nosy Komba. Walk about 500 yards through the fishing village, with time to browse for souvenirs and mingle with the locals along the way.
At the Black Lemur Sanctuary, learn how to spot the males and females as you watch them climbing and lounging in the trees -- the females are brown and males are black. Although these animals live strictly in the wild, they are quite friendly and are acclimated to the presence of humans. If they think there's a treat in store for them, they will often jump onto visitors' arms or shoulders.
Next up, continue your boat ride to Nosy Tanikely Maritime National Park. Hop overboard and enjoy some snorkeling, swimming or lounging on the beach. This small island is famous for its clear water and beautiful coral reefs. The underwater park is a virtual aquarium -- the domain of colorful parrot- and angelfish, sea turtles and other marine creatures.
At the nearby lighthouse, a colony of fruit bats snooze the day away. A snack is served on the beach before you return to Nosy Be by boat.
Please note:
Shade is limited; please dress accordingly. Wear your swimsuit under your clothing; bring a towel, sunscreen and a hat. The boat will make a wet landing; wear shoes that you don't mind getting wet. The standard of transportation and level of guide experience may vary. Limited tourism infrastructure is part of the charm here and guides are often in training -- you are trading breadth of experience for authentic interaction. Please bring your spirit of adventure and bear with any language difficulties your guide may encounter and with any operational surprises that may crop up.
