Dr. Christine (Chris) Drake is a geographer and author on a wide range of topics both for the scholarly world and for an appreciative wider readership. She has lived in the Netherlands, Switzerland, Sudan, and Indonesia (where she was a Fulbright Fellow in 1996). She has won several awards for excellence in teaching and has lectured on a number of travel programs worldwide, including the Semester-At-Sea program and many cruises. She has also led field courses involving professionals, teachers, and students in Morocco, Senegal, Turkey, Europe, the Stans and Peru.
Dr. Drake grew up in England and graduated with a first-class honors degree in geography from Oxford University. She earned her M.A. and Ph.D. at Rutgers University in New Jersey. Chris was University Professor of Geography and Director of the Geography Program at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA, where she was an acclaimed member of the faculty for thirty years.
