Depart the quayside and travel to Stellenbosch, founded in 1680 and set in a broad, fertile valley of the Eerste River. Today Stellenbosch is a major university town characterized by Cape Dutch-style architecture. Its streets are lined with oak trees, some of which have been declared living National Monuments.
Enjoy an orientation drive through Stellenbosch with an hour at leisure to explore the town on your own.
If you wish, you will have time to visit (at your own expense) the Stellenbosch Museum. It is comprised of four different houses depicting different eras -- Schreuder House (1709), Bletterman House (1788), Grosvenor House (1800 to 1830), and the OM Bergh House (1850). Alternatively, you may wish to browse through the variety of curio shops.
Stop at one of the wine estates in the Stellenbosch area to enjoy a wine tasting.
Return to the pier along the N2 highway.
Please note:
There may be steps at the wine estate. Depending upon which estate is visited, tour may not be advisable for guests using a wheelchair or for those with mobility limitations. This tour is available only to guests whose cruise does not begin or end in Cape Town. Corkage policy: Wine purchased on this tour is exempt from the on-board corkage fee (offer limited to one bottle of wine per person).
