A short drive from the pier takes you past Dover Castle -- an impenetrable fortress, much of which is hidden deep within the chalk of the White Cliffs.
Beyond the castle, you'll find the White Cliffs Visitor Center. From here, set out on a two-mile (3.25-km) walk atop the White Cliffs -- among the most famous cliffs in the world.
The route takes you past the landmark White Cliffs, the Victorian South Foreland Lighthouse built to warn mariners of the notorious shifting Goodwin Sands and to guide them through the Strait of Dover. This was the first lighthouse in the world to display an electric light.
Your hike ends at St Margaret's Bay -- a charming and interesting village that was once home to Peter Ustinov, Noel Coward and Ian Fleming. Enjoy some free time to explore on your own here before returning to Dover and the ship.
Please note: Wear sturdy non-skid walking shoes. Terrain includes even and uneven surfaces, inclines, gravel, grass, and many steps, as well as very steep steps from St Margaret's to the coach pick-up point. Tour requires walking approximately five miles.
