Drive through the center of Oslo, passing Akershus Fortress, the Royal Palace and the Nobel Institute.
The amazing Vigeland Sculpture Park was created and completed by one man -- Gustav Vigeland. Centrally placed in the park is the almost 56-foot-tall monolith featuring 121 stone figures of men, women and children climbing on top of each other in their struggle for life. Walk with your guide through the park to see around 200 stone and bronze sculptures, each symbolizing a different stage in the lifespan of humans.
Continue through some beautiful residential areas and up to the Holmenkollen Hills for a fantastic view of Oslo. The first ski jump was built here in 1892 and was the main venue of the 1952 Winter Olympics. The ski jump was recently rebuilt in time for the World Championships.
Lunch will be served en route.
On the Bygdøy Peninsula, you will visit the Maritime Museum, which houses the 9th-century Viking boat from the largest Gokstad Viking ship findings. Also on display is a wide range of Norwegian maritime cultural heritage items, including the country's oldest vessel (2,200 years old). The museum has a gift shop with an extensive inventory of books and souvenirs.
The new Munch Museum, which opened in 2021, contains 1,200 paintings and 4,500 drawings bequeathed to the city of Oslo by world-famous artist Edvard Munch. Study a cross-section of his paintings, etchings and lithographs.
Return to the city where your tour ends back at the pier.
Please note: Dress warmly in layers with gloves, a scarf, and a hat; outer layer should be windproof and waterproof. Wear comfortable walking shoes. Very small bags are allowed inside the museum; bags larger than A4 (± 8" x 12") must be left on the coach. High-heeled shoes, shoes with spikes, food, beverages, liquids, sharp items, and umbrellas are not allowed inside the Opera House or the museum.
