Not only is the Vatican a rich spiritual center, it is also rich in priceless treasures. More than 1,000 rooms and galleries, known collectively as the Vatican Museums, contain amazing treasures of art collected by the Popes over the centuries.
Highlights include the awe-inspiring Sistine Chapel with its world-famous frescoed ceiling, and Michelangelo's dramatic masterpiece, The Last Judgment.
Visit the Cabinet of the Masks. This constitutes an exclusive area of the galleries, whose name comes from the beautiful Roman mosaics depicting masks that adorn its floor.

Please note: In preparation for the 2025 Jubilee, the restoration work has begun on the ‘Baldacchino’ over the main altar of St. Peter’s Basilica, hiding Bernini’s Baldachin. This is expected to last until 2025.
