Explore the history of Ajaccio and see the former home of Napoleon Bonaparte.
A walk with your guide through the Old Town of Ajaccio takes you past several key landmarks. You'll visit Foch Square, with an impressive statue of Napoleon. Step inside the cathedral in which the Little Emperor was christened in 1771.
The history of the Bonaparte family in Corsica dates to the Genoan occupation of the island in the late 15th century. The house in which Napoleon was born, on Rue Malerba, dates from 1713 and remained in the family's possession until 1924. Its last owner, Prince Victor Napoleon, donated the house to the state. Today, you'll view the Maison Napoleon as you walk past, returning to the pier on foot.
Guests wishing to stay in town to shop or explore independently are welcome to do so but must make their own way back to the ship.
