A half-hour journey from the pier takes you through Napier's historical Art Deco District.
You're headed to Mission Estate Winery, situated on a small hill overlooking the Heretaunga Plain. The property's elegant historical buildings and sweeping views of Napier make Mission Estate the most-visited winery in the country. An Estate guide leads you through the seminary building and adjoining chapel, which features vaulted ceilings, arched windows and French doors.
In the wine cellar, sample a flight of seven fine wines led by one of the winemakers. (S)he shares information about the winemaking process started by French Marist order monks in 1851.
Savor a four-course set-menu lunch with wines paired to each seasonal dish.
Enjoy some free time to browse in the shop or explore the pretty gardens.
The 30-minute drive back to the ship is via the port suburb of Ahuriri.
