Discover the oldest army base in Australia – the Anglesea Barracks Museum. The facility is part of the Military Gaol (jail) built in 1847. The displays here depict the colonial period when the British Army occupied the site. It is also a memorial to the various conflicts involving Tasmanian servicemen and women from 1899 through current operational deployments.
Take in the fascinating collection of military memorabilia and uniforms with a guided tour, followed by some free time to examine Australia's military past and present on your own.
A pleasant panoramic drive through Hobart introduces you to the city's historical areas, such as Mt. Nelson Signal Station, Battery Point and Salamanca, as well as Cenotaph, Soldiers' Walk, Domain, Government House and the Botanical Gardens. You'll also have a chance to take photos from a lookout on Mt. Nelson, offering impressive views over the city and sea.
