Nakagusuku (Naha), Japan

Japan’s subtropical southern island outpost welcomes you. Naha was once the seat of the Ryukyu Kingdom, ruled from Shuri Castle.  Although it was almost totally destroyed during the fierce battle in 1945, today the castle and its striking Shureimon main gate have been reconstructed, and are among the Okinawan features inscribed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. Visit the city’s tranquil Peace Park housing a number of lovely, moving memorials.
