Dr. Tommie Sue Montgomery started out in international relations, moved to political theory, and ended up in Latin America where she did research and occasionally lived for thirty years. Her peripatetic career has included faculty or research positions in five states and Ontario. She has lived in Mexico, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Belize and Argentina, has traveled across Canada, throughout the hemisphere, and visited 19 European and surrounding countries, from Iceland to Russia.
 

Tommie Sue is the author of two books on Peruvian archaeological sites, three books on El Salvador, editor of books on Mexico and on peacekeeping in Latin America, and has written for academic and popular publications.
 

She has received three Fulbrights, has lectured at more than 60 colleges and universities in the Americas, and has been a consultant to USAID and the UN. She received an A.B. from Wesleyan College in Macon, Georgia, an M.A. from Vanderbilt, and a Ph.D. from NYU. In 2013 Wesleyan awarded her its medal for Distinguished Achievement in a Profession.
 

In retirement, she enjoys photography, travel writing and writing expert witness declarations on country conditions for Central Americans seeking asylum in the US and UK. Since 2005 she has lectured on ships throughout the Americas and across the North Atlantic. Tommie Sue and husband, David Abrahams, live in Oshawa, Ontario.
